What was the Spring-Bud Project?

In parts of rural China, the people did not have enough money or resources to send all of their children to school.  In those places, they chose to educate the boys first.  The Spring-Bud project worked in association with the All China Women's Federation and the China Children's and Teenager's Fund to raise money to give the girls an education.

In late 2007, we were very happy to learn that the Chinese government agreed to take responsibility for the formal education of all of their children.

What did we accomplish?

We arranged education for 100 girls in China.  A group of concerned Chinese living in the United States contacted WIPA to find out if they could send donations through WIPA to help educate the children whose schools were washed away during the flooding of the Yangtze River in 1998.  As our main concern is the education of females, the donors indicated their preference be used for the education of females.  After receiving our donation, the All China Women's Federation (along with the China Children and Teen Ager's Fund Director,) identified 50 girls  in Jiayu County, Hubei Province for the privilege of returning to school.  The girls started their education on September 1st, 1999.  We also arranged education for 50 girls in a primary school called WAN LONG DIAN XIAO XUE in YAN YOU FANG village, in KANGBAO county, near ZHANGJIAKOU in HEBEI PROVINCE, China.  Their families were economically devastated after an earthquake leaving the village only able to educate the boys.

WIPA thanks you for helping to alleviate illiteracy for young girls in China.
