As they say, all good things must come to an end and this letter marks the end of my presidency. It has been my absolute honor and privilege to serve as President for 4 years and I treasure fondly my experiences with WIPA. I first became a member in 2008, when WIPA was truly in its infancy, and it’s been an incredible ride. WIPA may only be 13 years old, but thanks to the support and hard work of a handful of people, especially Pauline Parry, it has a strong foundation and has been able to grow and grow. I’m excited to pass the torch to Meghan Ely and I can’t wait to see what WIPA becomes under her amazing leadership!

2020 certainly wasn’t the year we expected or planned, but I am incredibly proud of everything we accomplished this year on the National and International level. I spent the first part of the year (pre-COVID of course) traveling around to all of the chapters and was blown away by their plans for the year. COVID derailed things, but it was incredible to see how each chapter responded and bounced back to keep their members engaged, educated, and connected.

One of my proudest achievements this year was the International Webinar series. We produced over 50 webinars at the peak of the pandemic and it was truly a group effort to keep the ball rolling. A huge thank you to the marketing department, executive directors, and of course the guests for making it all a reality! I want to give a special shout out to the State of the Wedding Industry panelists who stuck with me throughout this journey. We did 5 installments with this group of leaders and it was so informative learning how each region was handling the pandemic. So thank you Mara Mazdzer, Renee Dalo, BreeAnn Gale, Lauren Carter, Mary Wright Shah, Gillian Marto, and Daniela Grafman for all of your time and support!

I want to take a moment to recognize our outgoing board members Diana Cardenas, Rachel Sheerin, and Brynn Swanson. WIPA is so thankful for your contributions and it has been an absolute joy getting to work with you. Wishing all of you the best in your future endeavors!

Rrivre Davies and Brit Bertino are also cycling off the board this year and it feels like the end of an era. The contributions they have made to WIPA are immeasurable and we wouldn’t be where we are today without them. They have both been by my side since the beginning of my WIPA leadership journey and I’m beyond thankful for their guidance, support, and friendship.

Our outgoing board members are leaving some big shoes to fill, but I’m confident that our new board members are up to the task of filling them! Say hello to our 2021 Board of Directors:

Lastly, I would never have been able to get through my presidency without the support of our executive directors Corinne Dudine and Vicki Carson. WIPA is able to run smoothly because of their hard work and I’m so grateful for their knowledge and guidance. It saddens me to announce that Vicki is retiring at the end of 2020. She has been an integral part to WIPA’s growth and success, and she will be sorely missed, but she has more than earned some leisure time!

There truly aren’t enough words to express how much this journey with WIPA has meant to me. It is one of the proudest achievements of my life and I’m so grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way. I always end my letters with a quote, and this month is no different. So in the words of A.A. Milne,

“How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for making WIPA such a special organization. Saying goodbye is certainly hard, but I’m lucky to have had this experience and I’m looking forward to watching WIPA continue to grow and thrive.

Kevin M. Dennis, CPCE
2020 WIPA President
