Creating Connection:
A Recap of WIPA Boston's Members-Only Gathering
by WIPA Boston
On August 20th, WIPA Boston hosted a memorable members-only event designed to bring our community closer together during one of the busiest times of year. Held at Equal Measure, a stylish cocktail bar in Boston, the evening was a perfect blend of relaxation, inspiration, and meaningful connection.
From 5 to 8 p.m., members enjoyed a warm welcome complete with signature cocktails, an open bar, passed appetizers, and decadent desserts. The highlight of the early evening was an interactive mixology demonstration led by James Beard nominee Jackson Cannon. Joined by two WIPA members, Cannon guided the group through mixing his signature Whiskey Smash: a lively, hands-on experience that added both energy and entertainment to the gathering.

But the true heart of the evening came through our “Connection Sessions.” Members were divided into small groups of seven to ten, with conversations guided by thoughtful, pre-set questions and facilitated by board members. Designed to spark deeper dialogue beyond the usual surface-level introductions, these conversations encouraged attendees to share, reflect, and discover commonalities they may not have otherwise uncovered.
The impact was immediate and lasting. Even after the thirty-minute Connection Sessions concluded, groups chose to remain together, continuing their discussions well into the evening. Members left feeling refreshed, inspired, and re-energized, which are remarkable outcomes in the midst of New England’s bustling wedding season.
Despite unseasonably cold and rainy weather that deterred some registrants, the event still drew 52 members, just under half of our total chapter membership. This turnout speaks volumes about the dedication of our community. In fact, the smaller group sizes only enhanced the intimacy of the Connection Sessions, allowing for deeper, more authentic conversations.
Feedback from attendees underscored the event’s success. Mark Robertson of King of Hearts Entertainment shared, “The table talks were a great idea and an idea I hope continues for future WIPA events! Great concept for tonight with tasty drinks.” Photographer Marcela Diaz shared, “These events are crucial to the success of my business. Tonight’s event helped me nurture the relationships I’ve created through WIPA that have brought me most of my business for 2025.”
One of the unique strengths of the evening was its accessibility. At just $25 per ticket, it was the most affordable event our chapter has ever hosted. Longtime members appreciated the exclusive members-only format, while new members felt warmly welcomed into the fold. The ticket price, however, also presented a lesson learned: some felt freer to forgo attendance given the rainy weather. For future events, we’ll continue offering strong value but maintain a higher ticket price point to encourage commitment.
Looking ahead, we are committed to building on the success of the Connection Sessions. Members have expressed strong interest in seeing them return, potentially as an annual feature of members-only programming. We’re also exploring other small-group activities, including a floral design workshop later this year, to continue fostering authentic bonds and meaningful collaboration.

This event, made possible by grant funding, proved that when our members gather with intention, magic happens. Our chapter attendees left Equal Measure not only with new skills and full glasses but, more importantly, with stronger relationships that will sustain us personally and professionally for seasons to come.
